Thokkanam is a traditional Siddha therapy in which a trained Siddha practitioner uses specific hand movements, pressure and gentle manipulation of the body, sometimes along with medicated oil. The therapy is traditionally used to help relax muscles, reduce stiffness, ease body discomfort and support mobility and physical wellbeing.
What happens in the room
- Before, 10 minutes
Pulse reading, the oil is chosen for your constitution, and you change into a wrap.
- The massage, 30 minutes
Warm medicated oil is worked over the body with rhythmic pressure, in a fixed order. Most people find it deeply relaxing.
- After, 20 minutes
Oil is left on the skin, you rest in a warm room, then a herbal bath. Do not go straight into cold air.
